Quietly… The Baby Comes… Part 3

Visited the gynaecologist today at Thomson Medical Centre.
It was so tough to find! Our doctor, Dr Lawrence Ang is based
at Sun Plaza, but comes in to a temporary clinic at TMC every
morning. That temporary clinic was in a corner somewhere
without a sign to indicate it’s location…

Anyway, everyone was very gentle about it, and treating us
very nice as we were first timers. However both the nurse and
the doctor were so quick about doing everything, anxious at
doing things quickly, yet wary about spoiling our experience
and scaring us, so it’s quite amusing.

My first impression of Dr Ang? Thumper from Bambi. 😀
His feet were thumping so quickly, it’s quite funny. I think
he was going to rush off to his other clinic soon.

Sorry… 😛 I observe people… Can’t help it! Occupational
hazard, I guess.

Anyway, Dr Ang gently reminded us, after congratulating
us first, that 1 in 5 mother’s lose their child in the first
trimester, so he asked that we take care.

He moved into a few don’ts for the first trimester…

    Don’t take raw food
    Don’t take caffeine
    Don’t take alcohol
    Don’t have SEX!

The last point was a surprise, actually.

And he moved us to the scan. Ultrasound, if I am not
wrong. It was quite unexpected. We had no idea we
would do an ultrasound so early, but the doctor said
we could check on the baby’s condition on the first
test.

I saw the little bean of Baby Tham on the screen
straight away. And there was a blinking spot, and
I knew without the Dr telling me that that was it’s
little heart, beating.

It was quite emotional for me. It was the first
acknowledgement that all this was very real.
There’s a new life taking form in Hwei Min.

The doctor measured Baby Tham, with a simple drag
and drop tool like it came out of Google Earth.

    1.41 cm!

And here’s the totally amazing thing. Based on the
measurement, the computer hums to generate the
estimated age of Baby Tham. 7 weeks 5 days. Estimated
arrival…

    17 June 2009!!!!

We were talking about planning for our baby to be
born on my birthday, which is also our Legally Married
Anniversary, and it came true! Oh My Goodness… Is
this the Law of Attraction, or what!!??

Of course, it’s an estimation, by no means an accurate
figure, but seeing it appear on the screen was enough
for us!

We’ve decided to reveal to our parents first. Haha… I really can’t keep secrets. 🙂

Over last weekend, my cousin was getting wed in KL. On Saturday morning before
we set off, I said “Baby Tham is coming…”

There are a lot of questions we would like to ask. I think that is one of the reasons
why I wanted to tell someone. What do we eat? What should we take note of?
Already, my mom shared that she was pregnant without knowing it before I was
born. Because she rode long distances on a motorbike with my dad, the foetus
was lost.

She also mentioned that one of my aunts lost her baby because she helped
someone to push start his car.

So no heavy carrying for Hwei Min!

Quietly The Baby Comes… – Part 1

This is going to form up the part of my blog that mustn’t
be revealed until things are ready.

I’m feeling so happy now but can’t talk to anyone other
than Hwei Min, of course, due to traditions. Hwei Min is
pregnant!

We’ve suspected something since she is a little late, and
I’ve been yapping about it (Law of Attraction, you know?),
but then she went to see a doctor today and confirmed it.

Hwei Min wanted to buy a testing kit, but I told her it might
be too early to check. She went to the doctor for a totally
different reason. Then she sent me this sms…

Dr says my urine is ok. No infection. He did a pregnancy test as well and i’m pregnant…

It was so nonchalant a response, I thought she was
kidding! 😀

Well, as traditions dictate, for the first trimester, we
have to keep the news quiet. But HOW TO DO SO!??
You know me… I want to yell it out for the whole
world to hear!

So, here’s the compromise. Write it in my blog. Keep
the post private, until all can be revealed! Hahaha!
